Vancouver Araz Chapter History
The Vancouver Araz chapter was established in 1977 by founding members: Ovsanna Kabakian, Arpinee Krikorian, Arsho Zarifian, Shake Khachadourian, Suzanne Yeghyaian Kharabian, Sona Bedrossian, Srpouhi Sarkissian, Ani Der Hagopian Hidie Kadian, Kohar Terzian and Aghavni Papazian.
The Chapter’s first Executive Committee members were: Ovsanna Kabakian, Arpinee Krikorian, Sona Bedrossian, Ani Der Hagopian and Aghavni Papazian. Shortly after the establishment, the community purchased a community center in 1979, where ARS Araz chapter has continuously provided its support financially, and through the volunteer work of its members.
The chapter focuses on the mission to preserve the Armenian language, heritage and culture through its many initiatives. In 1980 it established the Armenian Saturday School, which enjoys the close care and support of the chapter. Araz Chapter brings its participation in Folk Society and Canada’s Citizenship Council and various other activities that benefit the community locally, and those in need abroad.
Amid the challenges they may face, the Vancouver Araz chapter continues their efforts to work towards the many initiatives of ARS.
