Obituary for the Late Annie Demirjian

ՀՕՄ-ի Գանատայի Շրջանային Վարչութիւնը սրտի մեծ կսկիծով կը գուժէ հաւատաւոր նուիրատու Օրդ Անի Տէմիրճեանի մահը, որ պատահեցաւ 25 Յուլիս 2022-ին յետ երկարատեւ հիւանդութեան։
Մեծ եղած է դերը Անի Տեմիրճեանին Գանատայի կառավարութեան մէջ, որպէս՝ Միջազգային Յարաբերութիւններու երկարամեայ Տնօրէն եւ Միջազգային Կազմակերպութիւններէն ներս (ՄԱԿ), որպէս՝ Քաղաքական Հարցերու Յանձնակատար Տնօրէն։ Անին եղած է նաեւ Թորոնթոյի Եորք Համալսարանի Glendon School of Public & International Affairs բաժամունքի նախկին տնօրէն։
Բարեսիրական ծիրէն ներս, ան իր լուման չէ զլացած ազգային եւ հայանպաստ ծրագիրներու իրագործման։ 2020-ին Անի Տէմիրճեան, ՀՕՄ-ի Գանատայի Շրջանային Վարչութեան մօտ իր անունով հիմնադրամ մը ստեղծած է, որ պիտի օգնէ Գանատաբնակ հայ ծագում ունեցող ուսանողներուն, բարձրագոյն կրթութիւն ապահովելու գոլէժի և համալսարանի բաժիններէն:

It is with great sorrow that Armenian Relief Society of Canada informs its members and its followers of the passing of Ms. Annie Demirjian, who was a great supporter of ARS and a generous philanthropist.
Annie passed away on July 25th at home, after an illness surrounded by her loving family.
Annie had an exciting and an illustrious career working for the Government of Canada and United Nations.
Before moving back to Canada in early 2010’s, Annie was the Director of Political Affairs & Mediation Group at the UN Mission in Somalia. She was responsible for the peace building and state building portfolio, including: military/civilian interface & stabilization, political reform, state formation (federal/state), conflict prevention & local reconciliation and constitutional review. Working with the UN Missions in the field, she headed UNDP’s Democratic Governance portfolio in Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Eastern European countries & Central Asia. At UNDP-Iraq, Somalia and Libya, she was responsible for transitional administration, the constitution drafting process, elections, institutional development and capacity building, public administration reform, local governance and civil society development.
In 2010, she was seconded to Haiti to lead the Post Disaster Needs Assessment for the UNDP/World Bank after the earthquake in Haiti. Annie had 20 years of senior management experience, in policy and programming, with the Federal Government of Canada (central agencies/line departments, including at the Security Intelligence & Review Committee (SIRC).
She also worked for the United Nations and the World Bank in Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Palestine Zimbabwe, South Africa and Nigeria.
Before retiring on March 2020, Annie spent close to a decade working as the Director of Glendon School of Public & International Affairs, York University, where she worked with students and helped shape the minds of future generation of change makers.
In 2020, Annie Demirjian created the “Annie Demirjian Special Fund” which will support ARS Canada projects including educational, humanitarian and cultural projects.
